Today I am going to write about a wonderful cartoon that has been made in 2015 by Pete Docter. I will divide this cartoon into five parts according to Tzvetan Todorov’s theory of narrative sequence. Firstly I suggest to watch the full movie or if you cannot just click below and watch the trailer.

I am not going to write all story, because after that probably you will not watch the movie, I just will compare structure of cartoon and Todorov’s theory.
First Part – Equilibrium
First part called Equilibrium from the word (equal). The hero of the cartoon Riley, was born in Minnesota. She lives with her family. When she born the Joy appeared in her head. Sounds fantastic…….
Furthermore, Riley has remote control in her mind and Joy manages her. Gradually, year by year she grows and new emotions appear there and each of them helps her in different situations.
Second Part – Disruption
Second part of Todorov’s theory is Disruption. Her family should move to new city, to San Francisco, because father got new job. It seems that new city must be better but unfortunately it is a very small house with darkness and there are no even minimal facilities. Little girl has lost heart and she missed old friends, old house, hockey…….
Third Part – Resolution
The third part is called Resolution. It is kind of decision that heroes do after being disturbed by someone or something. In this cartoon resolution is expressed by desire to run away from new city and go back to her sweet home. When Riley runs from home she gets into the bus and suddenly Joy who was fighting all the time against Sad,
she abruptly gives remote control her. Riley remembers her old memories with sadness and misses family. She rises and runs back home.
Forth Part – Restored Order
Here is the fourth part of Todorov’s theory and it is called Restored Order. She goes back with understanding that cannot lose her most important – family. At the end of this fairy story happens the fifth stage of theory. Author called it NEW EQUILIBRIUM. It usually provides happy and positive END.
I think that this is very clever film, story and it is made for large audience. I believe that children like such cartoons because of COLORS, SILLY AND FUNNY SITUATIONS. Colors are really very attractive and they absolutely appropriate to human feelings. Also there are many interesting facts related to human structure, brain structure, structure of the dream world that we have and finally conscious and subconscious thinking.
